2 new confirmed COVID-19 cases recorded in E. Visayas

PALO, Leyte, April 7 (PIA) — The Department of Health Eastern in Eastern Visayas (DOH-8) on Tuesday confirmed two new positive cases for coronavirus disease (COVID-19) in the region.

This was disclosed by DOH-8 Regional Director Minerva P. Molon in a press conference held at the health department’s conference room.  

The two new COVID-19 female patients aged 56 years old and 32 years old are both from the municipality of Tarangnan, Samar and are co-employees of the second COVID-19 positive from Calbayog City, Samar.      

The two woman were reportedly to have been in contact with the second positive case before they exhibited symptoms.  

DOH-8 immediately sent a team from the Regional Epidemiology and Surveillance Unit to Tarangnan to do contact tracing to people who may have possible contacts with the two patients.

The RESU team also facilitated the transfer of the two patients to a referral hospital in Tacloban City for proper management and monitoring.   

With this development, Molon urged those individuals who may have contacts with the two new patients to come out in order to stop the spread of the virus.      

She likewise advised the local chief executives in nearby municipalities to strictly implement the enhanced community quarantine.   

To date, Eastern Visayas has recorded five COVID-19 cases, the first case was a woman from Catarman Northern Samar but has fully recovered and discharged from the hospital; the second case, who is now admitted in a referral hospital in Tacloban, is a 63-year-old professional from Calbayog City; while the third case who was a native of Hernani, Eastern Samar is not a local case in Region 8 and was admitted in one of the hospitals in Manila.
