April 27, 2020 Uncategorized

BANGUED, Abra, Apr. 27(PIA)– The Provincial Health Office (PHO)-Abra led a provincial training on the Proper Handling of Corona Virus Disease-2019 (Covid-19) cadavers among the funeral services managers/owners including rural sanitary inspectors(RSIs) of the 27 local government units (LGUs) here.

Provincial Health Officer Dr. Maria Cristina V. Cabrera held a dialogue with the funeral services owners and RSIs on their concerns about the implementation of procedures. She discussed the implementing guidelines of the World Health Organization (WHO) proper procedures on the disposal of Covid-19 remains.

“It is important for you to be aware of the WHO guidelines and procedures on Covid-19 cadaver disposal as a preparation just in case Covid-19 death counts may rise.” Cabrera said.

The PHO invited Dr. Filemon Porciuncula from the Regional Crime Laboratory Office-CAR as the guest speaker of the training. He discussed some tips and safety procedures for deceased persons infected with COVID-19.

Dr. Porciuncula also discussed the categorization of precautions for handling and disposal of dead bodies based on the mode of transmission.

PHO-Abra reminded that health care workers or mortuary staff preparing the body should wear appropriate personal protective equipment   according to standard precautions.

PHO-Abra Nurse Grace Tabula led the demonstration on the proper donning of PPEs before the participating funeral services staff and owners and RSIs. (JDP/CAGT – PIA CAR, Abra)
