Batanes PLGU provides hog breeders to qualified cooperators

BASCO, Batanes, April 25 (PIA) – As part of this island province’ recovery measure and long term goals amidst the effect of the COVID pandemic, the Provincial Government of Batanes is providing various livelihood and employment assistance and programs to benefit its affected sectors and displaced workers.

These various programs identified by the Provincial COVID19 Task Group – Economy Cluster aim to ensure food sufficiency and security and to have an alternative livelihood to farmers. 

One of which is the Swine Breeder Dispersal Program which aims to provide upgraded hog breeder to qualified cooperators.

Under the Swine Breeder Dispersal Program, the mode of repyament shall be 1:2 sharing scheme, wherein, for every one (1) head of dispersal breed, two(2) heads will be returned to the PLGU as repayment.

In case that the animal is found sterile, have deformities or abnormalities such as umbilical hernia, the receipient shall have the option to pay back the value of the animal or just give one(1) piglet as repayment.

The Provincial Government also provides hog to qualified cooperators thru its Swine Fattener Dispersal Program.

Under the Swine Fattener Dispersal Program, the animal will be raised as fattened until ready for slaughter wherein the cooperators shall only pay the book value of the animal after marketing.

On the other hand, the Provincial Government also offers soft loan for swine production where qualified farmers shall receive the amount P20,000.00 and be liable to pay within a period of two(2) years.

Amortization shall be done quarterly with the amount P2,500.00 with zero interest.

The PLGU also provides tractor services for these willing to till their lands. If interested, they are advised to visit the Provincial Agriculture Office. (MDCT with reports from PLGU Batanes/PIA-2)
