CALOOCAN CITY, April 2 (PIA) –Food packs, prescription medicines, special milk formula, basic supplies and diapers are some of the contents of ā€˜care bagsā€™ given by the City Government of Valenzuela to registered PWD kids in their area.

The project, a part of the Alagang Valenzuelano initiative, answers the growing demands for specific necessities of families and individuals with special needs.

According to Mayor Rex Gatchalian, the city government ensures that needs of children with disability are taken cared of especially those who are bedridden and with special conditions.

Children with disabilities are identified by the City Social Welfare and Development Office (CSWDO) and included in their Person with Disability (PWD) database and are further assessed and evaluated by homecare volunteers.

ā€œThe purpose of the homecare volunteer team is to visit PWD clients to check and verify their needs,ā€ Councilor NiƱa Lopez also the action officer of the Persons with Disability Office (PDAO) said.

ā€œOur beneficiaries have no capacity to go outside to have their medical check-up, so the city government thought of providing them with care bags. We ask them about We ask them what prescribed medicines and needed dosage they need so that we can provide it to them,ā€ Lopez added.

The PDAO action officer said the ongoing enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) makes it harder for PWDsā€™ day-to-day living that is why they make sure that ā€˜care bagsā€™ are delivered to PWDā€™s home.

The city government also ensures that PWDā€™s who needed medical consultation are visited at home by medical practitioners.

ā€œWe receive a lot of messages where our PWDs were not able to have a medical consultation because of the enhanced community quarantine, that is why we ask our doctors to visit them at home for proper medical consultation,ā€ Lopez said.

Aside from Valenzuela City Care Bag for PWDs, the city government also distribute Valenzuela City Food Vouchers to its residents for redemption of food packs containing five (5) kilos of rice, five (5) pieces of packed noodles, 12 pieces of canned goods and half kilo of sugar to provide additional food for the people affected by the enhanced community quarantine.

A Valenzuela City Market on Wheels, a ā€œmobile palengkeā€ inspired from the concept of Pasig City, is now doing rounds in different barangays using e-trikes to sell vegetables, and fruits, meat and poultry, seafood and other grocery items.

Soon, the city government will also distribute the Valenzuela City Day Care NutriPacks , containing milk, probiotics drinks and snacks for some 12,000 enrolled day care pupils  in public day care centers. (Valenzuela PIO/PIA-NCR)
