DA distributes vegetable seeds to cutflower growers
LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Apr. 26(PIA) – The Department of Agriculture –Cordillera extends initial assistance to cutflower growers in the municipality to help them cope with the effects of the enhanced community quarantine.
DA Cordillera Regional Director Cameron Odsey on Thursday turned over assorted vegetable seeds amounting to almost P1.2 million to La Trinidad Mayor Romeo Salda and barangay captains of cut flower producing barangays in the municipality.
Farmers in barangays Bahong, Alno, Alapang, Beckel, Bineng, Lubas, and Ambiong will receive six kinds of vegetable seeds in the package like scorpio cabbage, Chinese cabbage, bell pepper, broccoli, blue pole beans, and iceberg lettuce.
The cut flower industry is among the heavily affected businesses by the ECQ . Cut flowers are not considered essential goods, thus, are not allowed for transport and trading as per the marketing restrictions of the ECQ which started last March 17.
After the turnover at the municipal hall, the Odsey and Salda proceeded to barangay Alapang to distribute the vegetable seedlings to some of the affected farmers.(JDP/RMC-PIA CAR)
