CALAMBA CITY, Laguna, May 1 (PIA) –Products with lower and reasonable prices were sold recently to more than 200 residents of Bacoor City, Cavite thru the Kadiwa Diskwento Caravan, a joint activity of the CALABARZON regional offices of the the Department of Agriculture (DA) and the Department of Trade and Industry (DTI).

The Kadiwa Diswkento Caravan, held in Bahayang Pag-asa covered court, Brgy. Molino 5 in Bacoor City on April 27 is combination of DA’s KADIWA ni Ani at Kita which focused mainly on agricultural products while DTI’s Diskwento Caravan covers more affordable basic commodities.

Food products such as vegetables, fruits, fish, chicken, canned and frozen food products as well as non-food products like detergents were made available to urban families affected by the enhanced community quarantine (ECQ) due to COVID-19 pandemic.

“Okay naman sya, dahil mabibili mo dito ang lahat ng kailangan mo sa pang araw-araw katulad ng karne, isda at mga gulay. Malaking halaga para sa amin na makabili dito dahil wala kaming palengke na mapupuntahan dahil sa ECQ,” Nila Ancheta, a Bacoor resident said.

(This is a good activity because you can buy the everyday essentials you need like meat, fish, and vegetables, Buying here is a big deal for us because there is no nearby markets here and we cannot go to the nearest open markets because of ECQ.)

Kadiwa Diskwento Caravan served as a temporary market for those affected by ECQ. Because of direct links to farmers and other food manufacturers. Through this initiative various food products with cheaper prices, even lower than the suggested retail price can be sold to the public.

“Maganda dahil may ganito silang programa at mura ang mga bilihin katulad ng karne at gulay,’ said Luchi Arenas.

(We are lucky that the government has this kind of program where we can buy products for a lower price.)

Two agricultural groups supported by the regional office, the SAGULAY Farmers Association and the Gen. Trias Dairy Raisers MPC, offered their products during the activity.  (CPG, PIA-4A with report from DA 4A-RAFIS)
