DA intensifies ‘Price Act’ implementation on rice

April 5, 2020 Uncategorized

TUGUEGARAO CITY, Cagayan, April 5 (PIA) – – -The Department of Agriculture – Regional Field Office No. 02 (DA-RFO 02) on April 3 met the rice traders of Cagayan Province and the Local Price Coordinating Council (LPCC) of Tuguegarao City to set a price ceiling on rice amid effects of COVID-19.

According to Regional Executive Director Narciso A. Edillo, the meeting aimed to consult stakeholders on the suggested retail price (SRP) of agricultural commodities particularly rice.

The group, however, was not able to come up with a regional SRP due to non-attendance of stakeholders from other provinces.

It was agreed that there must be a bigger coordination meeting to include traders from Isabela, Nueva Vizcaya and Quirino.

Meanwhile, DA-RFO 02 had already coordinated with Provincial Governors and Municipal Mayors of Cagayan Valley to reactivate local price coordinating councils that they chair.

Edillo already written all local chief executives to convene the council and strictly implement price monitoring and ensure that there will be no price escalation during the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ).

Lately, the LPCC of Tuguegarao City was already reactivated in response to the joint circular signed by the Secretaries of DA, Department ofTrade and Industrty (DTI) and Department of Health (DOH). (MDCT/PIA-2)
