Davao City LGU to have more food distribution sorties
DAVAO CITY April 8 (PIA) – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio announced more food distribution to Dabawenyos as the city observes an Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) until April 19 due to the Corona Virus Disease-19 (COVID-19) pandemic.
In an interview by the Davao City Disaster Radio, she said that the city also aims to download more food items to the barangays at 100 sacks of rice per barangay.
“We downloaded an initial of 20 sacks of rice yesterday,” Duterte-Carpio said.
She urged the people to check the source of the rice because the barangay captains also have their own initiative of giving food to the people while the city government also gives food assistance.
Duterte-Carpio said the city will repeat again the rice distribution as soon as they are through with the first round.
She said there were barangays who made an initiative of giving food assistance given their corresponding budget and donors.
“These are the efforts of the city to support the residents in this time of need,” Duterte-Carpio said.
Even then, she realized that it is not easy to give out 350,000 grocery packs in her discussion with City Social Services and Development Office Chief Marilou Bermudo.
Duterte-Carpio said 64,900 grocery packs were distributed yesterday bringing the total number of 292,782 grocery packs distributed out of the 350,000 grocery packs targeted to be given to the residents.
The City Agriculture Office also prepared the distribution of goods using agri-food-card.
She underscored the qualification of the CAO food-card recipients as persons with no ration cards in order to give to the people all available food resources.
It is a joint activity of the City Agriculture Office and the City Veterinarian’s Office which is responsible for the meat and milk.
She said hot meals on wheels are distributed every morning and afternoon except on Good Friday. (PIA XI-Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
