April 22, 2020 Uncategorized

DAVAO DEL NORTE, April 21 (PIA) – The Provincial Government of Davao del Norte is spending P195 million for two rounds of food distribution to its component local government units (LGUs), Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib said.

The PLGU wrapped up the first round of food distribution on Friday, April 17, way ahead of schedule that was targeted to end this week, and it sets off today the second wave.

With his fellow local government officials, Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib made his last leg of the first round on Friday, April 17, at the City Hall of Panabo, hauling 64,544 food packs.

The last haul brought to a total of 360,081 food packs that the provincial government of Davao del Norte delivered to  its three component  cities and eight municipalities.

Jubahib with Provincial Vice Governor Rey T. Uy kicked off the first round of food distribution to component LGUS on April 07 before the holidays of the Holy Week.

On April 7, they went their way  to Asuncion where  they handed over 20,339 packs based on  actual food pack count as listed by the Provincial Social Welfare and Development Office (PSWDO);  to New Corella, 17,766;  Talaingod, 9,186;  B.E. Dujali, 8,061;  Carmen, 27,157.

On  April 08, Gov Jubahib  headed to  the Municipality of Sto Tomas  hauling 8,061 food packs and to the  Municipality of San Isidro, 8,482.

Right after the Holy Week, the PLGU executives immediately got on ground for food distribution on April 13, crossing  the waters of Davao Gulf to the Island Garden City of Samal, hauling 35,942.

On April 15, Jubahib  along with other officials, headed to the municipality of Kapalong , bringing along a total of 28,699 food packs, and then swung to the City of Tagum on April 16, hauling food supplies good for 102,910 beneficiaries.

“Kay ato man jud gi-execute ang enhanced community quarantine dinhi sa probinsya sa Davao del Norte, gikinihanglan nga masuportahan jud nato ang pagkaon sa atong mga kaigsoonan (Because we are executing the Enhanced Community Quarantine in the province, we need to support food for our constituents.),” he said.

Aside from food, the PLGU is also distributing facemasks and shelling out from the provincial coffers, money for the work-related needs of medical frontliners  in provincial district hospitals and those stationed at quarantine checkpoints at the national highways. It also  augmented resources of checkpoints at barangay levels.

Meanwhile, Jubahib was hoping for fund support from  the national government to further roll out food distribution until the Enhanced Community Quarantine period, ends.

The Regional Task Force COVID-19 has extend ECQ to April 26. Signed by RTF head, Davao City Mayor Sara Duterte, the policy has been adopted by LGUs of  Davao Region.

“Ang pondo nato karon sa pagka-tinuod lang gamay na lang,  kay dako man kaayo ang atong budget sa food packs.  (Our funds to  be honest, is getting scarce because we have provided substantial funds for food packs.),” he said.

“Halos na hurot na  nato ug  re-align ang budget sa atong probinsiya aron ipanghatag sa  atong mga  kaigsoonan nga constituents (We have re-aligned almost all the budget of the province so we can provide for our brother constituents),” he added.

He revealed having had a discussion with colleagues of  the Provincial Governors Leagues of the Philippines that resulted to  an appeal to President Rodrigo Roa Duterte to also grant provincial LCEs with IRA share to beef up resources for mitigating measures against COVID-19

President Duterted has granted such appeal.

News released on April 14 reported that the Department of  Budget and Management  (DBM) released notices of cash allocations for  the Bayanihan Grant to Provinces, a separate allocation given to cities and municipalities.   (PIA XI/ Jeanevive Duron-Abangan)
