DavNor to tighten quarantine checkpoint during extended ECQ

April 19, 2020 Uncategorized

DAVAO DEL NORTE, April 18 (PIA) – Local chief executives in Davao del Norte have agreed to even tighten security measures at the boundaries as it adopts the regional policy to  extend the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) to April 26.

Provincial Governor Edwin I. Jubahib yesterday (April 17) revealed the common thrust among LCEs and key members of  the Provincial Inter-agency Task Force IATF on COVID-19 to thwart entry from areas with high records of COVID-19 positive cases.

After turning over food packs hauled by 17 dump trucks to Panabo City yesterday morning, Jubahib met with the mayors of  the province in the afternoon.  He then later called to a separate meeting with the commanders of 1001st Infantry Brigade, 1003rd Infantry Brigade and the police director of Davao del Norte Police Provincial Office.

“Kauban ang atong tanan mga mayors nga gisabutan nato nga  higpitan nato ug  maayo nga dili sa  magtabok-tabok ang  atong mga kaigsoon sa mga boundaries. (Together with the mayors, it is agreed to even tighten  to prevent people from crisscrossing boundaries.),” he said in an interview Friday afternoon at the Provincial Governor’s Office (PGO).

He positively noted as “good” the province-wide ECQ that he hoisted on April 05 as it pulled down COVID-19 positive cases from nine to only five as of 3:00 p.m. yesterday (April 17).

The Provincial Health Office of Davao del Norte registered no new COVID-19 positive case for 13 days since April 4 up to April 17.

Jubahib, however expressed his wary about the number of persons under monitoring (PUM), citing the April 16 data of PHO Davao del Norte to have reached 203.  PHO also noted as person under observation those that fall under PUM noted to have come from areas with high cases of COVID-19 positive.

”Mao na, nga nag problema na  pud ta kay nagsugod na pud ta  sa pag monitor. (That is why we are having a problem as we are now again monitoring),” he said.

He viewed PUMs as possible cases of persons under investigation (PUIs) who would possibly become COVID-19 positive.

Citing this scenario, he said those who intend to enter  the border of and stay anywhere in Davao del Norte would automatically be placed in isolation rooms for quarantine.

“Pero kung naay mosulod nga ang purpose for visit lang, ah dili na nato gi-allow (If someone would enter just to visit, we won’t allow that.),” he said.

He told PIA that he had a standing order to  the police and had requested Philippine Army commands in the province to ensure tightened security measures

“Ato gyong gi-order karon nga ang tanan natong checkpoints higpitan jud, nga bawal usa ang pagsulod ug ang paggawas sa atong probinsya sa Davao del Norte. (We have ordered to tighten checkpoints and to prohibit entry and exit from our province of Davao del Norte.),” he said.   (PIA XI/Jeanevive Duron Abangan)
