Dgte mayor reminds brgy chiefs to post names of SAP recipients
DUMAGUETE CITY, April 22 (PIA) — Dumaguete City Mayor Felipe Antonio Remollo has advised the 30 Punong Barangays in the city to post the names of Social Amelioration Program (SAP) beneficiaries in visible places in their respective barangays.
Remollo gathered the barangay captains and told them that this move would also help the public identify who are in the list but are not qualified to receive the P6,000 emergency cash assistance from the government.
After receiving complaints that some beneficiaries are on the list but not qualified to receive assistance, the Department of Interior and Local Government (DILG) has directed barangay officials to post the list of their target recipients.
Remollo said it is important to fully disclose the list to promote transparency, otherwise if the names listed are incorrect, “we will have to refund the amount released to unqualified beneficiaries.”
It is also noted during the meeting that barangay tanods, Barangay Health Workers, and day care workers in the city are considered barangay frontliners and are now included in the emergency subsidy program of the national government.
Although the tanods, BHWs, and day care workers are not regular employees and receive only minimum allowance from the barangays, they are still subject to the proper screening of the Department of Social Welfare and Development (DSWD) to check if they fall below the poverty line.
