DOH-10 modifies COVID-19 case classification for uniformity

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY, Apr. 16 (PIA)–Department of Health (DOH)-10 Regional Director Dr. Adriano  Suba-an announced that they will now be implementing updated terms to be used for coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) cases in line with national office standards to provide uniformed data reports.

The three classifications are “probable case,” “suspected case,” and “confirmed case” and these will now be the technical standard term in their updates.

He said person under monitoring (PUM) will now be obsolete and the classification terms will now focus on what was previously known as person under investigation (PUI) instead.

“Suspect case” applies for people with Influenza-like symptoms, ranging from mild, severe, to critical that are still not tested but have travel history in COVID-19 afflicted places. This also includes elderly people (over 60 years old), people who are immuno-compromised, high-risk pregnant women and health workers who experienced respiratory problems, cough, and fever.

“Probable case” is for people with Influenza-like symptoms, ranging from mild, severe to critical that were tested but resulted in inconclusive results.
