DOLE 6 releases P6.2M TUPAD fund to Iloilo City

ILOILO CITY, June 25 (PIA) – – The Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE) 6 has transferred a total of P6,276,550.00 to the city government of Iloilo for the implementation of its Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD)program.

DOLE 6 Director Cyril Ticao turned over the check to Iloilo City Mayor Jerry Treñas on Junr 24 at the Iloilo City Hall for the immediate roll-out of the program which is a post coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19)intervention measure of the agency to help informal sectors mitigate the impact of the quarantine enforced to prevent the spread of the virus.

Treñas thanked DOLE 6 for the fund which, according to him, will be a great help to beneficiaries at this time of the COVID-19 pandemic.

“Makabulig gid ini sang daku sa aton mga pumuluyo diri sa syudad, subong nga naga-atubang kita sang daku nga krisis bangud sa COVID-19 (This will greatly help our residents here in the city, now that we are facing a big crisis due to COVID-19),” he said.

The amount covers the wages of the identified 1,589 beneficiaries who were affected during and after the implementation of the community quarantine.

Each of the beneficiary, who Treñas said, will be engaged in the sanitation activities in the city’s plazas, esplanade, markets and in their respective villages, will receive P3,950 for 10 days of work.

DOLE 6 has also alloted P88,984.00 to be paid to the Government Service Insurance System (GSIS) for the group’s insurance.

Beneficiaries are expected to observe strict social/physical distancing and the use of personal protective equipment while doing their sanitation works. (JSC/laf/PIA Iloilo)
