IATF-EID: 9 Metro Manila LGUs receive financial aid from DSWD

April 9, 2020 Uncategorized

CALOOCAN CITY, April 9 (PIA) — At least nine local government units (LGUs) in Metro Manila have received emergency financial grants for eligible low-income beneficiaries courtesy of the DSWD, Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF) spokesperson Cabinet Secretary Karlo Alexi Nograles reported on Wednesday.

During the Laging Handa briefing multicast by the Presidential Communications Operations Office and its attached agencies, Nograles said the Department of Social Welfare and Development or DSWD’s NCR Field Office has already facilitated the issuance of checks for the month of April to the Metro Manila LGUs that have already completed their requirements.

The LGUs are Manila (1.48 billion pesos), Parañaque (621.39 million pesos), Caloocan (1.72 billion pesos), Marikina (449.88 million pesos); Pasig (750.93 million pesos), Quezon City (3.02 billion pesos), Mandaluyong (368.37 million pesos), Muntinlupa (430.68 million pesos), and Taguig (739.97 million pesos).

The relief funds are part of the Bayanihan to Heal as One Act’s P270-billion social amelioration program established to mitigate the impacts of the enhanced community quarantine on low income families. One of its measures include the granting of P5,000 to P8,000 cash subsidy to each affected target beneficiary.

“Parañaque [City] has already begun distribution of the subsidies to target families beginning last Friday, while Manila began implementation on Monday,” the IATF spokesperson said.

“As of Monday, 16 Metro Manila LGUs have complied with the requirements and are ready to implement the SAP before the Holy Week break, with one NCR LGU committing to comply with the requirements by April 7,” he added.

Nograles said he had asked the Land Bank of the Philippines, the government-owned financial institution, to open its branches in Metro Manila on Saturdays to allow target beneficiaries to receive their cash assistance even during weekends.

“Per the DSWD, all Metro Manila LGUs have committed to submit the list of families not included in the initial list of beneficiaries at the soonest possible time,” Nograles added. (PIA NCR)
