LGUs in Pangasinan roll satellite markets for residents on quarantine

March 29, 2020 Uncategorized

PANGASINAN, Mar. 28 (PIA) – Local government units (LGUs) in Pangasinan have made the market more accessible to their residents by rolling out satellite markets in the barangays amid lockdowns and home quarantine implementation.

The city government of Dagupan opened a satellite market at the covered court of Barangay Bolosan to address  the daily needs of residents from the eastern villages including Barangays  Salisay, Mangin and Tebeng.

City Administrator Vladimir Mata said this is also to decongest the long queue of market goers at the Galvan market.

It opens from 5 am to 11 am daily and prices of goods are the same with that of  the downtown market, Mata said.

“May prutas, gulay, karne at isda kaya maganda ito at hindi na kami kailangang pumunta pa sa downtown,” said Glenda Mendoza, a resident of Brgy. Salisay.

Bayambang LGU has also started rolling its mobile market in the barangays for its residents after implementing a total lockdown in the municipality  following the death of a confirmed COVID-19 positive resident.

The mobile market will be in the barangays from  March 27 until April 2. It started with the town’s District 6 that served the barangays of Balaybuaya, Batrangcaoa, Beleg, Langiran, Macayocayo, Malimpec, Tococ East and Tococ West.

Municipal Administrator Raymundo Bautista, Jr. said for the first day of the mobile market, some 366 kilos of chicken were brought, 350 kilos of tilapia, 50 kilos of frozen meat products and 20 kilos of pork.

The LGU has earlier given a schedule for every barangay a day in a week to go to the market which opens from 6am to 6pm but only one member of a household was given a pass slip.

“May araw na ini-schedule for each barangay ng pagpunta sa palengke at pag walang pass, hindi makalabas. Kaya mabuti na merong rolling market kahit paano, makakabili ng pagkain kahit wala pa yung market day schedule,” said Jhoan Cacabilos, a teacher at the Bayambang National
High School.

The Municipality of Bugallon has also launched a satellite market for its residents as  a way to provide the basic needs of the residents without them going to the main market to avoid the spread of corona virus, said Mayor Priscilla Espino.

The market is open from 6am-12 noon.  However, ‘no pass slip, no entry’ shall be implemented for those who will go to the market. (JCR/AMB/VHS/PIA Pangasinan)
