Maasin LGU orders mandatory wearing of face mask in public places
MASIN CITY, April 18 (PIA) – Mayor Nacional V. Mercado of the city government of Maasin has ordered all individuals to wear face mask in public places as a health precaution against COVID-19.
During the meeting of the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID), Mercado said the mandatory wearing of face mask is based Memorandum Circular 2020-071 of the Department of the Interior and Local Government.
“Wearing face mask is one of the precautionary measures in preventing the spread of COVID-19,” he said.
The said DILG memo instructed all local chief executives including Punong Barangays, members of the Sanggunian and DILG regional and provincial offices on the mandatory wearing of face masks or other protective equipment while in public places.
This is to prevent further increase of COVID-19 cases in the country and considering that confirmed positive cases are now reported not only in Eastern Visayas but throughout the country as well.
Wearing of face mask at all times when going outside of the house, at the workplace, when entering government buildings and offices and while in public places is a must, Mercado said. (ldl/rgc/PIA8-S. Leyte)
