Maddela Agriculture Office bares projects for farmers

March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

MADDELA, Quirino, June 25 (PIA)—The Municipal Agriculture Office here has announced that the construction of the new agriculture warehouse located at the municipal hall compound is nearing completion.

Municipal Agriculture Officer Jovencio Salvador said the warehouse worth P1 million will be used for the safekeeping of the fertilizers and seeds which are provided by the Department of Agriculture as assistance to the farmers.

The new warehouse with dimensions of 6×9 meters is timely as the said farm inputs can no longer be accommodated in their office according to Salvador.

Salvador also announced that their office will also purchase a 4×4 pick up to be used in implementing programs in the far-flung areas which could not be accessed by ordinary vehicles.

“The vehicle also costs P1 million and the bidding is already done,” Salvador added.

Furthermore, the agriculture office has allotted P1 million for the distribution of corn seeds, approximately 200 bags to be planted in 100 hectares to farmers affected by the drought.

“We are also presently constructing small farm reservoir as per request of the barangay officials. These are constructed in the private lands of farmers and these will be shared among the farmers in the barangay,” Salvador added.

Salvador said he is thankful to the support of the local officials especially to Mayor Renato Ylanan whom he said is devoted to agriculture.

Aside from these projects, the municipal agriculture office has just completed the distribution of livestock to some farmers which include two hens and one rooster for beneficiaries who are raising free range chicken.

“We gave a total of 78 hens and 39 roosters and this also aims to upgrade the breed of our native chicken due to inbreeding,” Salvador said.

As stated in the memorandum of understanding signed by the LGU and the beneficiaries, each of the beneficiaries will return one chick to the MAO for redistribution to the next set of beneficiaries.

The MAO also gave goats to some beneficiaries which according to the MAO is a profitable business in the municipality due to the high demand of goat meat in the market.

Salvador also shared that during the ECQ, their office distributed vegetable seeds and the the farmers are now harvesting them for their own consumption and for sale. (TCB)
