Makati grants cash incentive to some 12,000 public school graduates

April 28, 2020 Uncategorized

CALOOCAN CITY, April 28 (PIA) –Makati Mayor Abby Binay today announced that the city government will provide cash incentives ranging from P1,000 to P5,000 to some 11,713 graduates of public elementary and senior high schools in the city, whether or not they are Makati residents

The mayor said graduates from Grades 6 and 12 will each receive P1,000 as cash incentive through electronic money transfer, except for those who have graduated with academic honors, who will be entitled to P2,000 to P5,000  cash incentives.

“For the first time, we will be awarding a P1,000-cash incentive to all non-honor graduates from Grade 6 and Grade 12, residents and non-residents alike. We would like to help augment their family’s resources, most especially those whose parents have lost their livelihood while the enhanced community quarantine remains in effect,” Mayor Abby said.

“We will be using contactless distribution so the students will not have to go out and get the money themselves. We will credit their incentives to their parents’ GCash account instead,” the mayor explained.

The mayor assured the graduates that their parents or guardians need not have an existing GCash account since one can be made for them using their mobile phone number, regardless of the service provider – Smart, Globe, TM or TNT.

According to DepEd-Makati, the city has a total of 7,207 graduates from Grade 6 and 5,506 graduates from Grade 12 in its public schools this year, including 2,885 from the Higher School ng UMak (HSU) at the University of Makati.

Based on the approved incentive program for honor graduates from the city’s public elementary and senior high schools this year, graduates “with honors” will each receive P2,000; “with high honors”, P3,000; and “with highest honors”, P5,000 each.

To receive the cash incentive, students will only need to log in to the portal www.proudmakatizen.com, click on Student Portal, then type in their 12-digit Learner Reference Number (LRN) on the space provided. Their profile will appear with two options on how they want to claim their cash incentive.

If they choose Option 1, they will receive the incentive within three days through GCash. With Option 2, they can claim the incentive at their respective schools after the ECQ has been lifted.

For Option 1, the students will need to provide their parent’s or guardian’s details, including their current mobile phone number, so a GCash account can be made for them. They need to fill out the spaces for Last Name, First Name, Middle Name, Birth Date, and cellphone number.

Recently, the city started distributing the second wave of financial assistance worth P2,000 to around 8,000 registered jeepney, tricycle and pedicab drivers through GCash, becoming the first local government unit in the country to use contactless distribution of cash aid during the COVID-19 crisis.

In the first few weeks following the declaration of the Luzon-wide ECQ, the city government distributed food packs to around 80,000 Makati public school students from preschool to senior high school to address their nutritional needs. (ICRD Makati/PIA-NCR)
