MMDA issues stern warning on traffic enforcer for not wearing face mask

March 14, 2021 Uncategorized

PASIG CITY, May 2 (PIA) — The Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) issued a stern warning against a traffic enforcer for failing to wear a face mask while on duty following a complaint from a private citizen.

According to MMDA, a complaint posted by a private individual on social media showed a photo of Traffic Aide 2 Lucas Alcaraz Jr. who was not wearing a face mask while manning a checkpoint along Alabang-Zapote Road, Almanza Uno, Las Piñas City.

MMDA Chair Danilo Lim immediately ordered the agency’s Traffic Discipline Office to conduct a thorough investigation.

“This act and/or omission of Alcaraz is a violation of the directive of the Inter-Agency Task Force for the Management of Emerging Infectious Disease that it is now mandatory for individuals leaving their residences to purchase basic goods or attend to emergencies to wear any type of face mask while the Luzon-wide enhanced community quarantine is in effect due to the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) crisis,” Lim cited in a memorandum.

The MMDA Chief also stressed to Alcaraz that repetition of the same offense shall be dealt more strictly.

Meanwhile, Alcaraz admitted that he was the person shown on the pictures. He explained that the reason why he failed to wear his face mask and/or face shield was because he left it at a food stall (carinderia) where he ate.

The traffic enforcer was also issued a citation ticket for violating Las Piñas City Ordinance No. 1689-20 (series of 2020) which orders the mandatory wearing of face masks at public places and shall pay the corresponding fine. (MMDA/PIA-NCR)
