NCCA gives assistance to 800 artists, cultural workers

April 20, 2020 Uncategorized

PARAÑAQUE CITY, April 20 (PIA) — The National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA) will provide P5,000 of financial aid to artist and cultural workers displaced during the period of the enhanced community quarantine due to the spread of the Novel Coronavirus (COVID-19) in the country.

NCCA launched the “NCCA’s Assistance Program for Cultural Workers Under the State of Calamity,” which will provide P4-million to around 800 beneficiaries.

The NCCA noted that artists and cultural workers are hit heavily by the enhanced community quarantine as most of these workers are being paid out of commissions.

NCCA will prioritize those who are not under an employer-employee relationship, without regular income or are working freelance, with no benefits, and those whose source of income are gone due to the current crisis.

The “NCCA’s Assistance Program for Cultural Workers Under the State of Calamity” is funded through the Commission’s “Arts Program as Quick Response for Natural and Human Induced Disasters”, approved for the year 2020 by the NCCA Board of Commissioners.

The Quick Response program has been previously used to address the needs of artists, cultural workers and communities affected by typhoons, earthquakes, and armed conflicts.

NCCA is constantly working to come up with more programs to assist the cultural sector. (PIA-NCR)
