DUMAGUETE CITY, April 15 (PIA) — Returning residents of Negros Oriental who were stranded in nearby Samboan town in Cebu due to the imposition of the Enhanced Community Quarantine (ECQ) can now return to Negros Oriental.

Negros Oriental Gov. Roel Degamo disclosed that the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force-Emerging Infectious Disease (IATF-EID) has passed a resolution allowing the entry of around 438 residents of the province who are stranded in Samboan.

Two weeks ago, the governor was informed that there were individuals stranded in the said town following the closure of borders in Negros Oriental.

They are currently housed in a public school which was designated as a quarantine facility for them.

The provincial government has also extended relief assistance to them while on quarantine.

Degamo said the task force allowed their return since they have completed the 14-day quarantine there.

He added that based on the guidelines from the National IATF-EID, no person shall be deprived of their right to return to their home towns in view of the COVID-19 pandemic.

The stranded residents will be transported back to the province today, April 15, 2020, which marks the end of their 14-day quarantine period.

The governor said he already coordinated with Maayo Shipping owner and Provincial IATF-EID Transportation Committee Chair Dante Uymatiao on the free transport.

The stranded residents will be ferried from Bato Port in Samboan, Cebu to Tampi Port in Amlan town.

Uymatiao clarified that this is a special trip intended only for the stranded passengers in Samboan and they will not accept other passengers.

The governor also added that the stranded passengers must follow health protocols imposed by the IATF.

Pag-abot nila dire kuhaon sila sa matag-LGU concerned. Idiresto pod sila sa barangay nga asa sila and i-quarantine pod sila sa for 14 days (Upon their arrival, they will be fetched by their LGU. They will be brought to the barangay where they live but they will be placed in a quarantine area for 14 days),” he explained. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
