PNA donates reusable face masks to Dgte media

April 14, 2020 Uncategorized

DUMAGUETE CITY, April 14 (PIA) — The Philippine Nurses Association (PNA) Negros Oriental donated reusable face masks to members of the local media who are also considered frontliners in the COVID-19 pandemic.

PNA Negros Oriental Chapter President Frances Almira Cal and the association’s immediate past president Thearose Bustillo handed over 70 pieces of cloth face masks to some media representatives in a simple ceremony held at the Visionaire’s Lounge here.

Philippine Information Agency (PIA) Negros Oriental Information Center Manager Jenny Tilos, Kapisanan ng mga Brodkaster ng Pilipinas (KBP) provincial chapter President Sherlyn Abella, and DYMD Energy FM Station Manager Florence Baesa accepted the face masks in behalf of their media colleagues.

The face masks for local journalists will be distributed by PIA in the upcoming press briefings organized by the Provincial Inter-Agency Task Force on Emerging Infectious Diseases (IATF-EID).

“Our heartfelt thanks to PNA of Negros Oriental through Frances Cal for donating washable face mask to the media. Keep up the good work and stay safe,” Abella said.

She emphasized that face masks are also essential to media workers because they go out on field assignments daily to gather news and interact with people.

The PNA handed over two types of face masks: a rectangular green face mask with a pocket where a filter paper can be inserted and a light blue semi-round face mask.

The rectangular green face masks were made by volunteers tapped by PNA while the light blue face masks were made by the staff of Negros Polymedic Hospital.

Cal said this was an initiative of nurse leaders, chief nurses in Dumaguete City hospitals, deans of different colleges offering nursing course, faculty, and volunteers in nursing schools to help protect health workers and other frontliners while waiting for the supply of surgical masks in the province to be replenished.

PNA had already distributed hundreds of face masks and face shields to different rural health units, city health offices, and primary hospitals across the province in view of the ongoing COVID-19 crisis.

Aside from members of the media, the face masks are also for the members of the Provincial COVID-19 Task Force.

The PNA provincial chapter is also pooling its resources to provide improvised Personal Protective Equipment (PPEs) for medical health workers as well.

“We also provided rain coats that are disposable and shower caps. We are also planning to give shoe cover pero wala pay available basin makapatahi pod ta (but this is not available for now, hopefully we can also produce this),” Cal said. (ral/PIA7-Negros Oriental)
