PRC-Benguet fabricates hand wash stations for checkpoints,LGUs

April 17, 2020 Uncategorized

LA TRINIDAD, Benguet, Apr. 17 (PIA) – – Responding to the call  in this COVID pandemic to wash hands  properly and frequently  as  a way to prevent the spread of the disease,  the Philippine Red Cross – Benguet Chapter is fabricating   portable hand wash station for distribution to quarantine  checkpoints and some local government units.

The mobile hand wash stations are fabricated using repurposed drums installed with lavatories, pipes, faucets, hose and other essential accessories.

PRC-Benguet Chapter Administrator Oscar Paris said this is a practical way of encouraging the washing of hands among the people. This is also in line with the order of Governor Melchor Diclas on the mandatory installation of hand washing facilities in business establishments and offices.

To date, 11 sets of portable hand wash stations were already distributed – four sets to Tuba checkpoints while two in Sablan checkpoints, one each for Mankayan and Tuba LGUs, two for Sablan LGU, and one for barangay Ambiong in La Trinidad.

Other donations distributed under the wash program were three sets water tanks for Tuba LGU including five rolls of hose.

The model is cheap and could be easily transferred the reason it is mobile. Those distributed especially in some checkpoints could be transferred to schools if classes resume, Paris said.

Hand wash stations are normally located inside rest rooms but ideally should be located before entering establishments, said Paris. This is to ensure that a person’s hands are clean through washing before entering any building or establishments to prevent the spread of any disease.

â€śHand washing using soap and water instead of using alcohol or disinfectant is the best and cheapest remedy not only during the outbreak of the COVID-19,” said Paris who is a nurse.

“If hand washing becomes a habit, it becomes a way of life – a sustained practice not only when epidemic or pandemic arises,” he added.

The Department of Health – Center for Health and Development earlier issued an advisory calling for the establishment of hand washing areas and strengthening of hand hygiene in any public or private building, healthcare facilities, and check/choke points and encourage individuals to perform hand hygiene upon entering and leaving the area.

The hand was project is made possible thru donations in kind and in cash from the following: Tagel Corporation for 11 pieces of drums; Brandy Abeya for 9 sets of stainless lavatory, 16 units of pails, 10 pieces water dippers, and five sets of faucets; stickers for handwashing facilities from Councilor Jayson Dangwa; 1 roll hose from Expresslane Pharmacy; and four units plastic tanks and 10 drums from the Philex Mining Corporation.

Cash donations which amounted to Php26, 000.00 came from Dinum Energy, Inc., Nick Moran, Laarni Denor, Fiedl Demot, Juliet Dumpayan, and the Rotary Club of Baguio.

The PRC – Benguet Chapter is still accepting donations in kind or in cash to fabricate more hand wash stations. Please contact phone number (074)422-2796 or at mobile number 0910-411-7713. (JDP/SCA-PIA CAR, Benguet)
