QC Health Clinics tap technology, give better care to TB patients

February 15, 2012 health, technology

Health care officers in Quezon City are now better positioned to deliver health services with their access to SHINE (Secured Health Information Network and Exchange), an electronic medical records (EMR) and electronic inter-facility health referral system provided by Smart Communications, Inc. (Smart). SHINE enhances and makes more efficient the process of registration of TB patients, recording of consultations, filling up and sending of referral, acknowledgement and feedback forms, search for a healthcare specialist or facility, reports generation for governance, setting of appointments as well as the sending of text message notifications and reminders to the patient. The project was undertaken in partnership with the Quezon City local government, the Center for Health Development – Metro Manila, and the Philippine Business for Social Progress (PBSP) through the TB LINC Project (Linking Initiatives and Networking to Control Tuberculosis). SHINE will initially be used in the 10 health centers of the city’s Legislative District 4 and in the city’s major hospitals for TB cases.  The initiative supports the QC government’s drive against TB cases among constituents.
