UdM sets virtual ceremony for 2020 graduates on Monday, to hold actual rites in 2021

CALOOCAN CITY, June 25 (PIA) — The commencement rites for Universidad de Manila (UdM) graduates for batch 2020 will be scheduled next year, UdM President Malou Tiquia has announced.

In a press release, the UdM President announced that virtual commencement rites scheduled on Monday, June 29 will push through, but live commencement rites will also be held for the graduates in 2021.

The virtual graduation was initially recommended by UdM Vice-President for Academic Affairs Dr. Ronald A. Herrera, and it will be livestreamed in various social media platforms handled by UdM.

“COVID-19 has made all of us adapt to the new norm but there are things that we will continually pursue and one of these is to honor college graduates because this is an event that happens once in a lifetime,” Tiquia said.

The University’s Board of Regents approved both the virtual graduation of Batch 2020, as well as the participation of Batch 2020 in the 2021 graduation rites.

“The Batch 2020 graduates have also been assured of the participation in the traditional march for Batch 2021 on June 2021,” Tiquia added.

About 1,306 graduates from the nine colleges of UdM will join in the virtual graduation rites including 14 cum laude and 4 magna cum laude.

“In the tradition of higher education institutions, we have likewise amended the criteria for these so that Latin honor awardees represent the best from among the students,” Tiquia said.
