Zarraga town implements DOLE’s emergency employment program
ILOILO CITY, April 22 (PIA6) – – The municipality of Zarraga, Iloilo has started implementing on April 20 the Tulong Panghanapbuhay sa Ating Disadvantaged/Displaced Workers (TUPAD)-Barangay ko, Bahay Ko (BKBK) program of the Department of Labor and Employment (DOLE).
DOLE 6 Information Officer-designate Niezel Anen Sabrido said 240 workers from the town’s informal sector are the latest recipients of the TUPAD-BKBK program in the city and province of Iloilo.
The workers who are marginalized, disadvantaged and displaced or affected by the ongoing enhanced community quarantine were identified by the local government unit, the proponent of the program.

Sabrido said beneficiaries were provided with emergency employment by disinfecting and cleaning their houses and surroundings for 10 days following the ECQ guidelines.
“They will work for four hours everyday and get P395 which is the minimum wage in the region,” said Sabrido in an interview over PIA Kapihan Regionwide radio program.
Aside from the granting of the financial assistance, TUPAD-BKBK program promotes sanitation and cleanliness to prevent further spread of COVID-19.
Some 300 affected workers in the municipality of Tubungan have already benefited from the program.
In Iloilo City, 38 beneficiaries in Brgy. Luna, La Paz are also employed under the program since April 15.
Sabrido said application of Brgy. Cubay, Jaro is now on process for 25 beneficiaries.
As of April 20, DOLE 6 has released some P3,025,110 for 2,977 beneficiaries from 432 barangays in Western Visayas under the TUPAD BKBK program. (JSC/laf/PIA6-Iloilo/Photo courtesy of DOLE 6)
