Digos City employs mobile market to bring basic foods to brgys

April 9, 2020 Uncategorized

DAVAO CITY, April 8 (PIA) – The barangay residents in Digos City need not go to the public markets as the local government here employs a mobile market that will bring basic foods such as rice, meat products, poultry, fish, fruits, vegetables and others, to the barangays.

Mayor Josef Cagas said that the mobile market is among the innovations of the LGU to assist the residents, especially now that the city is under the Enhanced Community Quarantine which imposes more stringent measures and restrictions to avert the spread of COVID-19.

Cagas said that the mobile market will require only one driver and one worker who should strictly observe the wearing of face mask and/or face shield, hair net and proper food handling.

He said the mobile market which will run from 8:00am to 4:00pm starts today in distant barangays such as Dulangan, Goma, Mahayahay and Balabag.

Meanwhile, the LGU of Digos City continues its relief operations which targets to provide food packs to all families in the city.

“The food packs distribution which is a city funded food assistance will be for all families in the city, whether rich or those in need,” Cagas clarified in the vernacular during a Facebook live announcement yesterday.

He said the LGU has allocated P62 million for the relief assistance, which aims to distribute 65,000 food packs consisting of 10 kilos of rice, 10 canned goods and 10 packs of instant noodles per pack.

As of now, the round one of the relief assistance has amounted to P48 million, he disclosed.

The mayor said that the first barangays which have started distribution or already completed include Lungag, Mahayahay, Balabag, San Roque, Matti and Barangay Zone 3.

As of Tuesday (April 7), 4,891 families have already received food packs, he added.

“Kung wala mo naapil, ayaw kabalaka kay naay pahabol,(If you were not included don’t worry there will be more)” Cagas assured to those who have not received in barangays that were already done with the distribution.

On the implementation of the Social Amelioration Program (SAP) in the city, Cagas clarified that the emergency cash subsidy from the Department of Social Welfare and Development will not be downloaded to the city LGU.

He said that the LGU will only assist DSWD in the distribution of the Social Amelioration Cards and profiling of qualified recipients.

“Dili ko gusto ma download sa panudlanan sa syudad. Dili ko gusto mapasanginlan kung dunay kapakyasan. Pero motabang para mapatuman ang social amelioration program, (I don’t want it to be downloaded in the city’s fund, I don’t want to be blamed if there is failure, but we will help to implement the social amelioration program)” the mayor explained.

He said he will leave to DSWD the identification of target beneficiaries, but he added that he has tasked the barangay functionaries to make sure to distribute the cards to those most in need.

As of now, the distribution of SACs has already started. (PIA-XI/Carina L. Cayon)
