MMC approves exemption of medical frontliners from number coding scheme

PASIG CITY, May 28 (PIA) – The Metro Manila Council (MMC) has approved the exemption of medical frontliners from the modified number coding scheme.

According to Metropolitan Manila Development Authority (MMDA) General Manager Jojo Garcia, medical frontliners will have the privilege to use their coded-vehicles without being apprehended when the modified number coding scheme is implemented in the National Capital Region on June 1.

“The MMDA understands the plight of the medical frontliners so we want to assist them during this challenging time. We hope that by exempting them from the modified number coding scheme, we are helping to provide ease and convenience to their daily transport,” Garcia, clarifying news reports that frontliners are not exempted from the modified number coding scheme.

The MMDA added that under the modified number coding scheme, coded-vehicles are allowed on major roads subject to condition that vehicles carry at least one passenger to maximize the use of the vehicle.

“Vehicles carrying more than one passenger, depending on the guidelines of the IATF-EID on allowed passengers per type of vehicles, will be exempted from the existing number coding scheme. We want the motorists to maximize the use of private vehicles on the road,” explained Garcia.

Meanwhile, Garcia also said that all 17 mayors of Metro Manila have “unanimously” agreed to recommend placing Metro Manila to general community quarantine (GCQ) from modified enhanced community quarantine that will end on May 31 and that NCR local executives are 100-percent ready. (MMDA/PIA-NCR)
