PRRD vows to protect health workers

April 15, 2020 Uncategorized

CAGAYAN DE ORO CITY,  Apr. 15 (PIA) – President Rodrigo R. Duterte has vowed to protect the well being of all health workers during a press conference held midnight at the Malacañan Palace on Monday.

Recognizing the important and valuable contribution of health workers in the fight against the coronavirus disease 2019 (COVID-19) pandemic, President Duterte said he and the government would continue to protect the well-being of all the health workers in the country.

He denounced the discrimination and discriminatory acts that are being thrown at health workers.

The President had  also ordered the police to arrest all persons that will discriminate or make any discriminatory actions against the health workers. He further said that if a health worker will experience any discrimination or discriminatory actions such as throwing of stones to their houses, they must report it immediately to the police. Also, he gave an instruction to the PNP and AFP to assist the stranded health workers to get to their residence and reminded them and the public that health workers are very important and they need to be protected.

On the other hand, the President expressed his understanding to those health workers who opted to work and serve other countries, saying he is not mad at them.

He also agreed with what Foreign Affairs Secretary Teddy Boy Locsin said that the government cannot stop its people to go abroad due to impairment of contracts and constitutional rights to travel. However, the President acknowledges the importance of health workers to stay in the country to help the government combat the pandemic.

“My snappy salute goes to the health workers. We will protect you. The police should come in. Without them, all is lost. Again, I ask for everyone’s cooperation,” Duterte concluded. (JAKAraña/PIA 10)
