Mayor tells Dabawenyos to stay in their respective clusters

April 22, 2020 Uncategorized

DAVAO CITY April 21  (PIA) – Mayor Sara Duterte-Carpio ordered the Davaoenos to go around only on the cluster where they belong.

In an interview by the Davao City Disaster Radio, she justified the use of clustering method as a control mechanism to control the spread of the Corona Virus Disease-19, recognizing that community transmission is already happening particularly in Buhangin and Talomo areas.

“People must no go out of their cluster.  Their cluster is made bigger and according to the number of the population and the available stores and public markets in the area,” Duterte-Carpio said.

She said clustering is designed for people not to go the hotspot areas.

Duterte-Carpio identified the areas with COVID-19 positive cases based on the number of confinement of patients at the Southern Philippines Medical Center.

“As of April 18, these areas included Agdao with five positive patients, Buhangin 24 COVID-positive patients, Bunawan, Calinan and Paquibato one positive case each, Poblacion 11 COVID-positive cases, Talomo 28 COVID-positive cases, Toril 4 COVID-positive cases, and nine COVID-positive patients coming from outside Davao City,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio said this phenomenon is the result of affliction from one person to another.

“Covid-19 positive patients now is the result of the virus transmission from former positive patients,” she said.

Duterte-Carpio however said that there is no lockdown on areas classified as highly critical.

She expected that more people will get sick because of the virus-transmission.

Duterte-Carpio said clustering goes along with the ECQ effectivity up to April 26 which will depend on the doctors’ assessment on the number of COVID-19 positive patients in Davao City in the coming days.

“The establishment of a community quarantine will depend on the doctor’s assessment on the numbers by Thursday or Friday, especially now that there are seven positive cases,” she said.

She said Buhangin District near the downtown area is noted o have community transmission.

“Red alert na gyud na sila dinha,” Duterte-Carpio said.

She said clustering is aimed to make people to stop moving as recommended by the doctors ever since.

“Ideally, everyone must not go out.  But we allow people to go out for food and medicine and of course in responding to their medical needs in the hospital,” she said. (PIA XI- Joey Sem G. Dalumpines)
